When are we successful?

  1. Heart - what do I love, trust, desire, and worship?

  2. Mind - what do I believe and what is my worldview?

  3. Life - how do I live?

    • “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23

    • “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21

    • “But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.” Romans 6:17

    • “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2

    • “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2

    • “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,” 2 Corinthians 10:5

    The soul is refers to the entire person: heart, mind, life. It is helpful to think of the soul as the deep coherence of the person before God.

    John Ortberg defines the soul as the capacity to integrate all the parts into a single, whole life. It is something like a software program that runs in the background. You don't notice it until and unless it is broken and not working- the soul that is.
