First Students NEXT STEPS

As a ministry, we exist to help students take their next step in their walk with Jesus Christ.

“we can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps”

Proverbs 16:9

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them
— Jesus, Matthew 18:20

Small Group:

Small Groups provide students with a way to encounter God through personal relationships while digging into the Bible. We offer gender and grade-specific groups weekly on Sunday mornings. High school and middle school small groups are offered at both 9:00a and 10:30a.

Fuel:

The front door to the student ministry! Fuel is designed for ALL students to be confronted with high energy worship and a powerful message followed with group time. They will find Fuel to be a place where they are welcomed and where they belong. Doors open at 6:00p and Fuel goes from 6:30-7:30p.

Salvation

We believe that we are made by God and for God. We recognize that the only way to have hope, joy, and life, is through a personal relationship with Jesus. This is the biggest of the steps. Students realize that they need Jesus to give them freedom from their captivity of sin and let go of their authority of their life to God. From there our life is tattooed by the Spirit of God.

Baptism

Baptism is a perfect illustration of what Christ has done for all sinners through His death, burial, and resurrection. It is not an act resulting in salvation, but rather one of appreciation to God for His saving grace. As believers, it is our public profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Discipleship

Get in the Word of God till the Word of God gets in you.
— Robby Gallaty

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28: 18-20

Bible/Prayer

God desires a constant relationship with us. Ways that He has given us to communicate with Him are through His Word (the Bible and Spirit), and through prayer. Students are encouraged to spend time with God each day through His Spirit in prayer and His word. This can be done through a personal quiet time with the Lord but also with other followers of Christ.

Accountability

In life, we are stronger together. Groups of 3-4 students will be led by an older mentor for the purposes of pushing each other to be more like Jesus each semester. These groups are built on the values of trust and confidentiality. These are not groups for fueling gossip, but for sharing burdens with responses of grace, truth, and love.

Missions

It is our goal for every student to be on mission for God. We join God’s mission through:

  • Sharing our faith at least once a week

  • Not only hearing the Word of God but also putting it into action

  • Bringing others to the community of believers

  • Aiding others in their next steps

  • Ready to serve under any circumstance

  • Living out Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
